What is Bengkung Belly Binding?
Bengkung is an ancient traditional Malaysian belly binding method to encourage healing after birth. It is the practice of tying a long strip of cloth around the abdomen during the postpartum recovery period (first 12 weeks) to ensure a strong support to the womb after childbirth.
Benefits of Bengkung Belly Binding:
- Helps to slim the rib cage, belly and hips.
- Pulls the separated abdominal muscles (diastasis recti) back together.
- Prevents back pain and the “nursing slouch”.
- Decreases postpartum bleeding time by speeding up the process of waste blood disposal in a natural way.
- It feels good!

F.A.Q.
Why should I do this instead of buying ones like Belly Bandit?
Other store-bought belly binds are sized to fit S, M, L, etc. Not all small people fit in a small the same. This wrap custom fist to you. Your size will change as you continue binding, and this wrap will custom fit you every time.
How long do I wear the bind?
It is typical to wear the bind for 40 days in the Malaysian culture. You can wear it for as long as you would like. The more you wear it, the more benefits you will see.
Do I wear the bind 24/7 for 40 days?
No. We wrap most of our clients before they go to bed. They wear the wrap until they wake up. If the wrap is still snug and providing you with support, you can continue to wear it until it comes loose. You will need to re-wrap before going to bed again the next night as moving around too much will make it come loose.
Can I wrap myself, or do I need someone else to do it?
We provide the wrap, your warming essential oil blend or warming paste, and a lesson on how to continue wrapping. You can wrap yourself, however you probably won’t be able to get it as snug as someone else wrapping you can. We suggest having a partner present to learn how to continue wrapping you.
What areas do you serve?
We provide belly binding at Davis County Midwives located in Bountiful, Utah.
Can I wear this over my clothes?
We recommend wearing it under your clothes. We will have you get into pants that are easy to pull down so that we can wrap your hips as well.
Do I have to take off the bind in order to use the bathroom?
No. You can easily pull your pants on and off over the wrap and the wrap does not cover anything to prevent you from using the bathroom.
What colors are available for my bind?
Any color of the rainbow! We can leave it white, or we can dye it what ever color you would like for an additional $10 charge.
